Mungo NP Trip Day 2 - Yass to Narrandera

Our travel map for yesterday after much disciplining of laptop and phone options can now appear. I will try to do one for each day as we go. The writing will be small so click on the image if you want to read the town names.

Day 2

Today's journey in beautiful sunny weather was almost due west to Narrandera.

We left Yass after our overnight oats breakfast and a quick shower by about 8am. We decided not to travel the main highway but headed to Binalong where we had read there was a glass blower who had a gallery that opened at 9am. Binalong is a lovely little town and we had time to do a few steps around town before walking to the gallery. There we had to wait a little while before they opened so we were able to say hello to nearby cows and calves and look at the lovely garden.

I bought some lovely glass beads.

The glassblowers suggested that at Harden we stop and look at the statue of Bill the Bastard and told us about this amazing horse (very difficult to handle) who rescued 5 other soldiers whose horses had all been shot. These horses and men all came from Harden.

There was also some silo art depicting scenes from the area.

Our next stop was the Licorice and Chocolate factory at Junee which we had heard about from Chooky on a zoom call just before we left Sydney. First we had lunch in the amazing cafe!

Then we took a wander around the factory watching through the large windows to the various workers and production lines and activities. The licorice being made was amazing.

The building was originally a flour mill and was amazing to just wander around. But of course we also bought some chocolate.

On then to Narrandera via more minor roads. There we found the Country Roads Motor Inn for accommodation then had a slow wander around town. Because the TV does not work we were given a complimentary bottle of wine. I chose the Jacobs Creek Pinot Grigio.

In the centre of town there is a fountain that is apparently by the Royal Dalton factory in the UK.

On the way back to our room we bought take-away Thai for dinner which was just what I needed. Having eaten that I was able to think my way around the map issue so I could include them in this blog.

Time now to settle in for the night and do a bit more sewing. I actually got some done last night as well.

  1. That was a good day. We stayed at the pub at Binalong on a bike ride. It’s a lovely little town. The glass blower would have been interesting. The rest of your day are places we haven’t been for ages, so you are inspiring us to revisit at some stage.
