We left Hay at about 7:30 today, a little earlier than usual. Of course, as we are now generally travelling east the sun was in our eyes and we had to watch carefully for wildlife. The only thing we saw was a single emu right on the edge of the road.
The Hay plain is incredibly wide and flat but is a very interesting experience to travel through.
After over an hour of travelling at 110kmph we came into very flat paddocks of canola and some wheat.
At Weethalle we stopped for a cuppa and some raisin toast for morning tea at the Road Kill Grillz and took the compulsory photo of the painted silos in the town.
On then at 100kmph in more undulating country with trees on both sides.
When we got to West Wyalong we called at the Visitors Centre and asked about where to go. The lady suggested Ungarie about 40 km north so off we went, hoping to find some lunch there. The whole town was very run down and nothing really open for lunch.
However, we were able to find the many murals on various walls which depicted scenes of historical Ungarie.
Back to West Wyalong where we booked into the Acacia Golden Way Motel then found lunch at Thom, Dick & Harry's in the main street. I had a lovely salad.
We decided to do a few steps so took a walk along the Green Corridor path on the north side of the main street. It rained very lightly for a bit of the way but we kept going.
Then we crossed the main road to the Wetlands boardwalk which was really lovely an quite short which was a blessing for our weary legs.
Back to the Motel to write up diaries. After a while Kerrie went over the road to buy chips for dinner and saw an incredible storm approaching.
