On the Road again - CFT Outback Trip to Birdsville and Back - Day 3

After breakfast this morning Wendy, Kerrie and I decided to go for a 30 minute walk before the bus left. Unfortunately, Wendy tripped on a raised bit of footpath and did a fantastic face plant. Luckily, one of our leaders, Steve,  is a trained paramedic and came straight outside to assess and treat the immediate issues and then his wife Erika went by taxi with Wendy to the hospital for assessment for concussion as she had hit her head quite severely and an x-ray of wrist.

The coach took the rest of us out to the Royal Flying Doctor Visitor Centre and by the time we had seen what we wanted and were enjoying morning tea, Wendy and Erika arrived back and were able to have a quick tour of the exhibition.

It was then time to hit the road again, heading for Nyngan where we found our own lunch.

And yet another long road journey until we arrived in Cobar at around 4:30pm. Today we saw emus and feral goats along with lots of ploughed crop fields and some cotton still standing. I love the Calitris pines looking just like Christmas trees along the way.

Our first stop in Cobar was to the huge sign where we had group photos in front of it.

Then around the back to the mining museum.

There were a colony of swallow's nests under the eaves of the museum and they looked fantastic though were difficult to photograph.

Then a bit of a drive to look out over the New Cobar Mine which was breathtakingly deep. I was lucky enough to fluke sun's rays falling into it.

Then it was off to find our motel to settle in and to walk down to dinner at the Empire Hotel. Our meal was fantastic but it was soon time to head back up the road to our beds. I have taken advantage of the free wifi at the motel to upload my notes and photos.

Another wonderful day and we're getting to know each other much better after 3 days and such a lovely small group.
