Today was a very long drive - 520 km. We were off early on the Birdsville Track north.
Once we left Marree we saw a flock of budgies, kangaroos and one of our ladies saw a dingo.
The track was relatively good with just a few rough bits along the way.
Morning Tea was under a beautiful Coolibah at Cooper Creek which in flood is 5 km wide).
We saw mirages, stoney landscapes and never-ending horizons.
Lunch was at the Mungerannie Hotel which was a real outback hotel.
One of the trees had lots of Corellas and Galahs in it and a Raven that was quite upset.
Just where the road takes an easterly direction there was a toilet in the middle of a paddock which of course we were pleased to make use of.
We arrived at Birdsville soon after 5pm and were really surprised at what a good looking well-kept town it is.
We settled into our rooms at the hotel to find that there was some sort of big bash that had just ended and they were all at the hotel for a party. What a noise! Will we sleep at all?? Dinner was very slow in coming but at least it was not fish and chips again although dessert was more chocolate cake.
I will now climb into my bed an hope to get some sleep.
