Pernilla and I went down to Underhill last week. We enjoyed a late lunch at Marulan on the way then continued on with about 12 bags of personal papers from Mum's clear out to burn off. So we decided to do all our cooking over a paper fire.
Of course the first job was to boil the kettle then Pernilla filled in her time feeding the fire to keep it burning. We can't light a bonfire until after the first weekend in April unfortunately.
The other job that kept us both busy was picking any fruit that was ripe. The weather had been fine for a few days and rain was predicted so it was good to get it while it was dry as this would avoid rotting. I now have a few trays of quinces, apples and nashi pears to deal with at home.
The newly surfaced patch in the driveway is looking good and is quite easy to drive on.
Our next day was a trip to Goulburn where we had morning tea at Rose's Cafe, an old church school that has been beautifully converted.
I rang Terry and Ellie who have moved to Goulburn and they also joined us at the cafe for a catchup.
Pernilla and I then wandered to a few of the sights and some of the shops before we headed out to Ellen and Pete's new home.
Once there we helped Pete with his building project and took a wander along mown paths to one of the dams.
There we were amazed by the copulating damsel flies. There were hundreds of them. If you click on this photo and zoom in you'll see them all.
The building project is two small rooms at the entrance to a very large shed, one for Ellen's office and one for a lounge room, while they live in a caravan (also in the shed) while renovations are being done in the house.
It was fun to watch the Jackson 5 boys while we were acting as gophers.
The next day our job was to remove two red scrambling single roses from the back garden. They were annoying Ellen.
This was followed by Ellen and I trying to bring down a leaning dead branch from one of the trees in the northern paddock. It is very precarious and dangerous. However, we could not get it as the upper branches had buried themselves into the ground as it had fallen.
Back home ready to clean up and do some washing so we could go to church the next morning. After church we headed out to Geoff's to help Ivy celebrate a birthday and to help Geoff with a few little garden sorting jobs.
It was a long week that started with 2 days of sorting for my Mum and the sorting will continue for a few weeks yet.
A very busy weekend, but an enjoyable in by all accounts.
