Yesterday was an extremely long day for the builders but they succeeded in inserting the huge beam under the ceiling level to remove the brick column in the middle of the original back wall.
| On the truck |
| Then getting it off the truck |
| Preparing the wall to support the upper storey |
| The steel beam (over 200kg) was primed last night |
| Swinging it onto the rollers |
| Rolling it in Egyptian style |
| Turning the corner |
| Rolling it up the ramp |
| Then in the door |
I was not game to be inside when they had to man-handle the beam into place working within the confines of the props that were holding up the house.
| All up in place |
Some bricks were then cemented into place on the beam so that when they came today they could remove the props and smaller supporting beams.
This beam is way over engineered for the job it is doing but because the engineer said this size has to be used, if it is not used and something happens then the builder is not insured and therefore neither am I.
Oh the mess! Will I ever be able to clean it all up?
