Tuesday 31 December 2019 - New Year's Eve
We knew a really hot day was forecast so Geoff et al and I headed south soon after 6am from our respective homes. We both had a very easy drive down to Rauri and Janice's and then spent the day at Berry dodging the debilitating heat and keeping abreast of the fires along the east coast.
After lunch we left for Gerroa where we could get in at 2pm.
Soon after we settled in the forecast cool southerly change came in bringing with it ash and smoke as the fires to the south were whipped to a frenzy.
I then alternated between walks along the creek, reading to the girls and re-hydrating before calling it a night. Heather seems to have really come down with the cold she has had for a while and has a nasty juicy cough.
Wednesday 1 January 2020
The fireworks at Gerroa for midnight were cancelled but the party music was rather loud so there was not much sleep until after about 1 am.
Up at around 6 am with the girls, Ponyo sleeping in my room all night.
After breakfast the wind changed to the SE and we were able to see the bridge through the choking smoke so we ventured to the beach. Such fun with the girls. They both just loved running in and out of the water and riding the surf boards.
Unfortunately Ivy cut her food quite badly on an oyster on the way back so time was spent comforting and dressing her cut.
After our surf Jen took the girls to visit a friend at the caravan park while Geoff and I went shopping for supplies.
The afternoon was spent mostly inside out of the smoke but it cleared more as the day went on.
We enjoyed an early anniversary dinner together at the Fisherman's Club then home for an evening helping the girls write stories about their day and doing lots of drawing with them.
