On the Road again - Birdsville Trip - Summary

 A few facts and figures:

About 6000 km travelled in 18 days. Click on the maps and they will be enlarged. From the end point on the maps (St George) we travelled back to Sydney.

I did not get my raincoat out of my bag although we had some rain at night early in the trip and some very frosty mornings on the southern part of the trip. One morning the frost was up to the top of the single storey rooves.

We had 15 travellers and 3 staff in a large 40 seater(?) coach (plenty of room) and our driver Michael could get it to all sorts of places and kept it clean all the way.

I wrote one poem when I heard the statement "But there's nothing there!"

Look Again

Look at the distant vistas of wide, empty nothingness, of ear-splitting silence and breathtaking space. "Just miles of nothing" I hear you say!

But look again at the wide all-embracing love of God's creation and enjoy his gracious hugs.

Look again at the creatures - hopping, flying, slithering, running - living their own full lives. So difficult to capture on film or even spot among the rocks and vegetation.

But look again at the colours around your feet in the myriad variety of leaves and stones.

So look again at the distant vistas and imagine... and feel blessed.

Outback Snippets was written by four 'fighting' ladies - Fiona, Cheryl, Kerrie, Betty

Corellas carolling the dawn
Plane's early take off
Footprints in the sand and salt
Red earth and wide blue sky
Gums in dry creek lines
Flat, wide horizons
Emus, roos and wedgies
Cattle on the road
Goats and goats and goats
Dusty cattle drafting
Road goes on and on
Dust clouds approaching
Bone jarring judders
Silver barked red gums
Shade of a lonely tree
Over the red dune rises
Swales of pebbled flats
Grid, Dip, Crest and Floodway
Remnants of the Ghan
Rare road houses
We stop,
We scatter, others scatter
Sunset's fiery glow
This I call the outback.

It was certainly a Fantastic Aussie Tour organised by Christian Fellowship Tours.
