A day trip to Underhill

Yesterday Geoff, the girls and I took a one day trip to Underhill, mainly to drop off things and collect more of the metal waste for Geoff's cleanup tomorrow in Sydney.

This is my first visit since February due to lockdown and Covid19 fears. It was great to get there. And because the girls slept a lot of the drive Geoff and I had a chance to chat without distractions which usually does not happen at home.

What an amazing sight! There had been almost 200ml of rain in a week and the dams are all full, some even overflowing.

The top dam level now covers the three star pickets that were holding Geoff's floating plant pots. Those are now caught in a tree on the other side. The water level is up to the old overflow pipe.

Here is a picture from earlier this year to compare the dam levels. The old overflow pipe can be seen in the trees beyond the star pickets.

The overflow channel was quite damp with puddles all along it.

The bottom dam was not quite up to  the overflow and we could not decide whether there had been any overflow or not.

The track down to the far dam was a mess with fallen Casuarinas and other twigs. It was very difficult knowing which way to go.

Once we got there all the trees that Nathan and Geoff planted were standing in water. I do hope they are species that do well with wet feet.

There was a light sprinkle as we arrived and as we left but really only heavy mist. The drive down and back was relatively easy. The only stop we made was at the Marulan truck stop for fuel and the girls and I stayed in the car.

We arrived back with a trailer load of rubbish and some washing up for me to do back home.

It was a very quiet and calm visit with lots of birds and Eastern Grey Kangaroos hopping away from us into the cover of the trees.
