We were woken around 5am as the train left the Kandos station. I had had a very good and restful sleep and it was great to just lie in bed watching the Capertee Valley as we passed. Then followed the trek though three carriages to my 6:30am breakfast.
We had a long stop at Wallerawang and a few long tunnels on our journey. As we joined busy main lines we would have to wait for other trains to pass. We are the lowest priority in the order of give ways.
We then started passing the burnt out areas from last summer's widespread bushfires. In some places there was some regrowth but it others it was still quite bare.
At Mt Victoria we all had to leave the train. For our group this was the last time we'd see the wonderful staff who had looked after us for our journey. Lots of very sad goodbyes and lots of bags to carry upstairs as there is no lift at Mt Victoria.
We then had our very own hop-on-hop-off Explorer Bus that took us to Katoomba and then on the normal tour around the Blue Mountains where we could get on and off as we liked.
The driver stopped at a few lookouts for us without having to wait for the next bus and he explained what various things in the distance were. This is a view from Narrow Neck.
Jenny and I got off at Leura for an early light lunch and wandered the shops until we were quite done in with the heat (33C). We then hopped on the next bus to come which took us back to Katoomba where we strolled along to our hotel (Mountain Heritage). We arrived before check-in time but were allowed to go to our rooms where we found our bags and I sank onto my bed for a nana nap.
The hotel was amazingly restored and the views from the huge lounge room windows were fantastic.
As it was Sunday we all hopped on the bus again at about 4pm and attended a service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Wentworth Falls.
Then back to the hotel as the sun was setting in time for dinner and for me an early night.
